Most people move to Stowe to enjoy the great outdoors. For residents that aren’t quite confident on skis, there are a number of hiking trails in the following parks and recreational areas:

  • Smugglers’ Notch State Park
  • Mount Mansfield State Forest
  • Putnam State Forest

These three parks are maintained by the Green Mountain Club, a nonprofit organization that works to protect and preserve America’s first long-distance hiking trail. This trail, known as the Long Trail, stretches from the Massachusetts state line and follows the ridge of the Green Mountains up to the Canadian border.
