5 Things to Look forward To; September in Stowe Vermont

Stowe, Vermont combines a classic 200-year-old New England village with  Vermont’s highest peak, Mt. Mansfield.  However, there is much more to Stowe, Vermont, the town famous for it’s skiing and winter activities. For example, did you know that Stowe is rated as the #1 fall foliage destination by Trip Advisor?

From skiing, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, paddling, glider soaring, corn maze exploring…the list goes on! No matter the time of year you can find an event, or recreational activity to take advantage of the great outdoors.

Not the sporting type? You’ll still enjoy a trip to Stowe—just plan on hitting the spa instead of the slopes, or perhaps a craft beer tour with 4 Points Craft Beer Tours? A choice of spas, pools restaurants and bars…with so many options there is something for everyone here in Stowe!

We’ve taken the liberty of compiling a few events happening the coming month here in Stowe to help you plan your trip!

September 2016 Events

Join The Fly Rod Shop for the Second Annual Vermont Fly Fishing Show on September 9th, 10th, and 11th for a weekend packed full of everything flyfishing! Friday, we’ll start off by offering a guided stream tour for $95.00 per person followed by a free casting clinic and fly tying demonstrations. Saturday is going to be all about the companies that make fly fishing what it is today! Cast that new Sage rod you’ve been eyeing, or get your hands on a new Lamson reel for 2017! Also be sure to make it to one of the many free casting demonstrations or on-the-water presentations! Don’t miss out on the fly tying presentations and definitely come with an appetite, as Trapps will have some 5 star food available as well as some of their great beers!


Friday – Sunday September 16-18: The British Invasion

british invasionThe British Invasion is a British lifestyle event that started “over a pint of ale” in Stowe, Vermont, in 1990. A four-day event that starts on the weekend of the third saturday in September each year, to include “all things British”, with primary focus on classic British motorcars. Beautiful Stowe, Vermont, plays host to a dazzling collection of classic British Motorcars on the third weekend in September every year. MG’s, Triumph’s, Austin-Healey, Jaguar, Singer, Morgan, Land Rover, Rover, Rolls-Royce and Bentley, Riley, Sunbeam-Alpine, and British Motorcycle comprise over 65 separate classes in the British Classic Motorcar Show. They come in by the hundreds to compete in two major car shows – People’s Choice and the Concours d’Elegance. Truly a British Invasion of fabulous proportions in a magnificent, world-class alpine setting.


Sunday September 18th : Trapp Cabin 5&10k Trail Race

Trapp Cabin Trail Race

Beginning and ending in the Trapp Family Lodge Meadow, the races wind through 800 vertical feet of idyllic forest, bubbling streams, and wild flowers. The races follow a dirt road briefly before merging with double track cross country trails. The 5K diverts at Old County Road and follows Russel Knoll Trail back to the finish. The 10K continues on to the cabin and returns on the new single track trails. These beautiful trails are not accessible to the general public so this is a special opportunity to run in a unique location. Day of registration and bib pick up at 8:30 am. Prizes, food, and bib raffle after the race.


Saturday September 24: 8 Cuerdas Presents: Barcelona

8-Cuerdas-Image-2Dedicated to celebrating art song and solo guitar repertoire from Latin America and Spain, the 8 Cuerdas duo debuts its newest program, Barcelona. Featuring renowned Catalan composers such as Granados, Obradors and Mompou, the program also presents works by guitar virtuoso Miguel Llobet and contemporary composer Moises Beltran. Come hear why soprano Sarah Cullins and guitarist Daniel Gaviria are recognized throughout Vermont for their artistry and innovative programming.


Sunday September 25: Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival

VTPC_Logo_BcThe 8th Annual Vermont Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival will be taking place at the Stoweflake Mountain Resort in Stowe, VT Sunday, September 25th, 2016! Chili Cook-off Contest starts serving: 12:15 pm. Competition: 1st round: 12:30 pm. 2nd round: 1:30 pm. 3rd round: 2:30 pm. Awards shortly after the last round. Music: (2 bands featuring House Dunn): 11 am – 4 pm (with occasional breaks). Admission: $5 for ages 5 and over, free for 4 and under. Please feel free to bring umbrellas, chairs or blankets. But, please no dogs or outside food or beverages.
